2016 Season 1 and round 3, Luxembourg

Wellcome to Luxembourg, this event is third race of 2016 SEASON 1 1:10 ISTC 13.5 SPEC series.
This raceserie continue`s here at Luxembourg, earlier race at Atsugi, where Bailes and Rensburg were setting the pace, was very exiting. It was so close call, that the winner was resolved at last corner where Rensburg got better outcoming line and drived to win. Gap between Rensburg and Bailes was only 0.13seconds at finishline. Third podium place went to Germany`s Benjamin Lehmann, with 2.5seconds distance to winner. So, expectations are high in here, as those three fastest from Atsugi, are also here at Luxembourg. WELLCOME!

QUALIFYING
At qualifying round, for our joy, we could see that few new guys were on fire. In early stage of qualy, Finlands Jukka-Pekka Huhtala was setting the pace to other drivers and pace was good.

KEVIN PIGNOTTI CLAIMS 2014 VRC 1:10 NITRO TITLE

Young Italian Team Associated factory racer Kevin Pignotti has successfully defended his 2013 title in 1:10 200mm nitro on-road class. Only Jeffrey Rietveld (NL) and fresh 1:12 champion Rick Yelle (US) managed to stay within 2 laps in the 1 hour A-Main to finish 2nd and 3rd.

A relatively poor semi final finish (only 6th) gave Kevin’s fellow competitors hope that the 2013 champ was perhaps a bit rusty, but Kevin showed no remorse in the 60 minute final. For the first 10 minutes young Ducth racer Jeffry Rietveld stayed very close with Kevin and the 2 tossed p1 several times, but after the 2nd pit stop Kevin showed a relentless pace and slowly drove away from Jeffrey and the rest of the field. All racers had opted for a tire change half way the 1 hour final, so there was no strategic advantage to be gained by trying to stay out for the whole race, all racers had done their homework well!

Kevin’s stats are impressive, as we know from the past:
fastest lap 00:17.850
slowest lap 00:18.752

Italian racer Kevin Pignotti, just 15 years old, has raced to victory in the first VRC Pro 1:8 World Championships in convincing style. Pignotti had to leave qualifying pole honors to Martin Wollanka from Austria, but from then on he was untouchable.

In the 1 hour final at the Luxembourg track he drove faultlessly and needed a turn marshal just once, one lap before the end! With a 16.230 fastest lap and a race average of 16.809 Kevin drove an incredible steady race but also at an incredible fast pace. He also got his race strategy spot on, saving one fuel stop on Babchenko and Wollanka. All 3 top runners went for a tire change half way.

Alexy Babchenko from the Ukrain, and Martin Wollanka made up the podium 2 ½ laps down on Pignotti. Their race was very close, Wollanka leading till lap 145, then Babchenko to go in 2nd again, Wollanka returning to second briefly during the last fuel stop but in the end Babchenko finished just 5 seconds in front of the hard pressing Austrian. Italy was the strongest coun... read more
