Todd 'Doc' Wasson leaving the VRC project

08.07.2014   Category: Site news

We regret to announce that our physics developer Todd Wasson will no longer be involved in VRC Pro. Todd has decided to part from the project after having worked on the physics engine, the chassis and car handling for over 14 years.

Todd, who has been working on the VRC project from his hometown St. Paul in Minnesota, has contributed greatly to what VRC Pro is today: state of the art r/c racing simulation software. Todd did an excellent job translating all the input and feedback he received from us and from testers into superb on- and off-road car handling, which are recognized by r/c racers from all over the world as being amazingly realistic.

Todd’s departure means that, after 14 years of non-stop development, physics development is now ‘completed’. In the world of simulation there is of course always room for more improvement, but those improvements would have only been marginal given the extremely high realism attained. Especially after the last physics update of May 2014, the physics and everything related to it is of very high and unrivaled quality. Fortunately Todd’s depart does not mean that no new cars will be released. We will continue to release exciting new chassis, but now without Todd’s involvement. We will try to match the quality Todd has delivered which will not come easy!

On behalf of Virtual Racing Industries and the VRC community we thank Todd for all the hard work, dedication and knowledge he has brought to the VRC project and wish him well.

As all the guys that posted here, the same big thanks for your work, and specially the last buggy physics update (the only major one I could see the diffference beeing new to VRC)
I wish you all the best for future projects and life in general.

Thank you so much Todd; luck in future projects.
Thank all the people who make the VRC workers, sponsors and community members online definitely the best tool for RC model car.

Posted by: Jose M Maciá (ES) on 8.7.2014 13:39:16 (UTC) But although Todd has been an important man VRC team, let's not forget the rest of the team have also been and are very important in this project. Thank you very much to all for your effort. Which of course, has continuity.

VRC Pro is a team effort, not just one guy. All are important and as they are specialists for a certain part of the sim, you need them all to have a product.
- game architecture
- game logic and code
- interface
- graphics engine
- sound engine
- physics engine
- car configuration and implementation
- 3D content
- game editor and exporters
- database and competitions structures
- testing
- website
- marketing and communication

to name the most important areas...

Todd has developed a physics engine specifically built for on- and off-road r/c cars, from absolute scratch, on which we can build for years to come, it's that good. So he felt it was time to move on and do something else.

I wish him the best of luck even though I'll miss him and the discussions I had with him. I'm sure he'll find another job very soon. He's very, very good at what he does.

Thanks Todd, amazing developer and man!
Your contribute and knowledge will remain unmatchable for long time.
