A MULTI-PLAYER EVENTS STRUCTURE...

23.01.2024   Category: Site news

I am working on a concept for a multi-player event structure. My feeling is that such a feature would add a complete new dimension to VRC Pro. Now racing is limited to ‘solo’ racing, you against the clock, also in events. Multi-player is of course available in VRC Pro but not as an event structure.

The idea is to appoint ‘multi-player event organizers’ or MPEO’s who can set up multi-player events all by themselves, restricted to countries, regions or continents to overcome the time zone issue. The structure would include chat communication, an essential necessity for the successfully running of a multi-player event.
The structure I envision would enable a MPEO to run a multi-player event in a matter of just a few hours! Like starting at 8 and finishing at 11. Like a mid-week club race!

MP events could of course be ran with collision-on which would add a whole new dimension to virtual rc racing events, bringing it even closer to reality!
The reason I post this idea here is to get your valued feedback. For the realization of this multi-player event concept I will rely very much on the collaboration of the software developers who have worked on the VRC project in the past and who all have other jobs… It will therefore at least take a year to get this developed.
I look forward to receive your feedback and input on this ambitious new feature.

Put your comments, questions and suggestions in the section below.

I have also started a discussion thread on the VRC Pro Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/VRCPro/ with quite a few good feedbacks, check it out!

P.S. below is what ChatGPT thought of this idea...

Multiplayer race events in VRC Pro can be a great idea for several reasons:

1. **Community Engagement**: Multiplayer events foster a sense of community and camaraderie among players, enhancing the overall gaming experience.

2. **Skill Improvement**: Racing against real people provides a more dynamic and challenging environment than racing against AI, allowing players to improve their skills.

3. **Variety and Excitement**: Each race can be unique due to the unpredictability of human opponents, keeping the game fresh and exciting.

4. **Global Competition**: Players can compete with others from around the world, adding a global aspect to the competition.

5. **Learning Opportunity**: Observing and competing with more experienced players can be a valuable learning experience.

6. **Event Diversity**: Hosting different types of events (like tournaments, leagues, or casual meetups) can cater to a wide range of players.

7. **Social Interaction**: Multiplayer events provide a platform for social interaction within the gaming community.

However, it's also important to ensure good matchmaking, stable servers, and fair play to make these events successful and enjoyable for all skill levels.

To contribute to the development of multiplayer, I have connected in several sessions. In the last few it was open session and the collisions were activated, the very realistic collision physics reminded me of the past when the IA gave you those moments of unbeatable action and realism, the real drivers of multiplayer is the closest thing to real life in terms of reactions and overtaking and collision techniques. You can add to the selection screen menu the display of whether you are toggled collisions on or collisions off to choose preferences to avoid scares when logging in, great job VRC, best regards.

Hi Andrés, in the main menu at the top click on "Events" and the menu will be displayed to select them, official and club events (select current events at the top left since you can also select past events), once selected several options appear in practice or race mode, choose your preferences and enjoy them. Best regards

Currently follow view competing with rostrum view has more people not competing than the more people gained competing in follow view. The result of racing the two views racing together is negative and most racers do not approve. It is a completely different competition in follow view in which follow view should compete with follow view drivers only in which you will see the very view have damaged the games integrity and loss of racers.

Posted by: Jörg Bernklau (DE) on 14.2.2024 21:35:28 (UTC) I like the idea,MP with collision on....i drove a lot of rounds on diffrent Tracks with collision on and i found out that when a car will be replaced is also hitable...better give the replaced cars 5 sek without collision, like a ghost mode....because you have no chance to replace the car where and when you want. so if somebody hit the replace button the car will be set on a fixed point and maybe right before somebody else is passing by...both will be hit again

good point! This requires looking into the code to see if this is possible at all.

I posted a video on the VRC Pro Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/VRCPro/of a mp session with collision on mode, 1:8 at Clermont Ferrand. And wrote the following:

"This is some footage of a multi-player session I ran last week, experimenting with collision-on mode. Most of the collisions look pretty realistic, this is what happens when one car runs into another.
On-road cars behave quite realistic, open wheel off-road is a totally different matter. The main reason being that collision detection is using ‘collision boxes’ around the body but as the wheels and tires extends beyond the body contours, the tires cause the collision to be very erratic. We will look if there are ways to improve this.

Going back to this mp test, I think the acceptance of collision on mode is much more a psychological issue. In real life racing, when you crash into another car your opponent will immediately let you know that he is not ‘amused’ to say the least. You tend to avoid these situations.

In multiplayer mode your opponent is not near you, maybe even thousands of miles away, maybe doesn’t even speak your language. So who cares… This is going to be a very important task of the mp session organizer to make clear that such behavior is unacceptable and risking to be banned. In fact very much the same as IRL racing.

Anyway, mp event organizers will have the option to run with or without collision. This will sort itself out, racers will let organizers know what they prefer!"

Would be a big deal and even more realistic.

As written in your post: "However, it's also important to ensure good matchmaking, stable servers, and fair play to make these events successful and enjoyable for all skill levels"

Posted by: Pieter Bervoets (NL) on 5.2.2024 13:12:33 (UTC) I don't understand that there are racers who use follow mode at all... Can't be faster in my opinion.

It’s not faster , it’s easier to be consistent & if you run a smaller screen or have not so good eyesight it helps …
