Probably the biggest r/c track on this planet: Lostallo in Switzerland. With a length of 430m this track takes well over 20 seconds to go round, that is with a 1:8 scale racer. Lostallo is located at the south of the Alps close to the Italian border. The club has hosted numerous European and World Championships on this track. The sound of the cars when they come by on the front straight is absolutely amazing, and the Doppler effect makes it even more realistic. The infield is technical but never tight. The sheer size of this track makes it one you ought to have in your VRC track collection.

Event report for: 2016 SEASON 1 1:8 SPORTSCARS ROUND 5

22.04.2016

image

By Bruno Eliazord. VRC Pro Reporter & Pro Driver.

Here we are back to Lostallo track after the spec round, for the 1/8 nitro sportscars round 5. 81 racers came for all over the world, representing not less than 12 nations. The track is ready, the drivers are ready, you're ready, so let's go for a flash report of this event.

Club Class starting grid after qualifying round:

1/ Balint Rezes / 20 laps / 07.08.776
2/ Nuno Lourenco / 20 / 07.10.944
3/ Benjamin Krings / 19 / 07.20.506
4/ Stephen Cheung / 19 / 07.22.026
5/ Laurent Edet / 18 / 07.01.964
6/ Scott Dickson / 18 / 07.18.314
7/ Aron Roach / 18 / 07.24.780
8/ Björn Siewert / 18 / 08.10.638
9/ Felix Andre / 17 / 07.06.358
10/Gary Climie / 17 / 07.15.004

For this class, the event is that a newcommer named Balint Rezes has arrived, and he has given a hard time to Nuno Lourenco, the multiple winner in this class this season.
Fisrtable, on the start grid he succeded in dominating the ususal two best drivers in this class. During the race, he takes a very good start, and he is immediatly the faster on the track, sliding before each corner to turn quickly. But in fact, he could have being even faster without this, if he would decelerate earlier. Nuno loses some positions making a mistake, and has to increase his focus. Benjamin Krings who was good during the qualifying round, has more difficulties on the long run, and unfortunately for him, won't be able to make a good result this time. Laurent Edet increase his pace on long run, and from the 5th spot at the start, finishes at a very good 3rd spot. Keep on the good work Laurent ! Nuno, has finaly find a challenger this season, and this is Balint Rezes who take the win.

Balint Rezes. The winner in class club.

Results :

1/ Balint Rezes / 55 laps / 20.14.816
2/ Nuno Lourenco / 54 / 20.02.418
3/ Laurent Edet / 51 / 20.09.112
4/ Stephen Cheung / 50 / 20.04.646
5/ Benjamin Krings / 50 / 20.17.618
6/ Björn Siewert / 50 / 20.19.336
7/ Felix Andre / 50 / 20.20.426
8/ Gary Climie / 45 / 20.07.588
9/ Aron Roach / 45 / 20.08.664
10/Scott Dickson / 45 / 20.08.922

Sport Class :

1/ Klaus Koewenig / 20 / 07.15.152
2/ Ralf Sieber / 19 / 07.00.072
3/ Peter Haaima / 19 / 07.00.582
4/ Luke Allam / 19 / 07.02.422
5/ Camilo Flores / 19 / 07.03.476
6/ Rudolf Aigner / 19 / 07.03.912
7/ Joost Wouters / 19 / 07.06.890
8/ Laszlo Vari / 19 / 07.07.602
9/ Stefano De Rossi / 19 / 07.09.888
10/Kevin Tsang / 19 / 07.11.656

We already know that Klaus Koewenig is fast. So fast that he could run in the pro class easily. Than, it's not really a surprise to see him starting from the TQ, and keeping it as soon as the horn blows. But behind him, even if they're to far to be dangerous for him, the other follow with a good consistency, like Peter Haaima, Camillo Flores, Kevin Tsang, Rudolf Aigner who has chosen to drive with drag brake to see if he's faster and consistent with this solution.
At mid race, Klaus Koewenig has almost lapped everybody, but Camillo Flores, Kevin Tsang, Luke Allam, show a good pace behind.
Untill the end Klaus will be unreachable, and win with two laps better than Camillo Flores in the second spot. Anyway, good race for them, and Ralf Sieber and Luke Allam.
Things have not been so good for Peter Haaima, Kevin Tsang. For Rudolf Aigner, he stated 6th, and finished 6th. So now that the question : is the drag brake a good idea or not ?

Klaus Koewenig. The Winner in class sport.

Results :

1/ Klaus Koewenig / 55 laps / 20.14.658
2/ Camilo Flores / 53 / 20.01.702
3/ Ralf Sieber / 53 / 20.02.782
4/ Luke Allam / 53 / 20.04.038
5/ Joost Wouters / 53 / 20.11.538
6/ Rudolf Aigner / 53 / 20.18.936
7/ Kevin Tsang / 52 / 20.06.524
8/ Peter Haaima / 52 / 20.08.998
9/ Laszlo Vari / 52 / 20.09.428
Stefano De Rossi / DNS

Pro Class :

1/ Jeffrey Rietveld / 21 laps / 07.06.428
2/ Martin Wollanka / 21 / 07.09.312
3/ Joshua Berman / 21 / 07.11.566
4/ Graham Raistrick / 21 / 07.16.944
5/ Benjamin Lehmann / 21 / 07.19.448
6/ Nuno Correia / 21 / 07.20.494
7/ Massimo Alliprandi / 20 / 07.00.662
8/ Alex Guillot / 20 / 07.02.248
9/ Björn Börgers / 20 / 07.02.616
10/Ugo Calaprice / 20 / 07.02.616

In pro class, four drivers won't take the start of the main final : Nuno Correia, Massimo Alliprandi, Björn Börgers, and Ugo Calaprice. We don't know the reasons, but it's a pity because they're all able to do something good in this class.
The big event was the reunion of Jeffrey "Superman" Rietveld, and his best opponent Martin "Batman" Wollanka. Of course, considering the last race of Joshua "Captain America" Berman, it's impossible to forget him, and the others dangerous opponents like Graham" Charles from X-Men" Raistrick, Benjamin Lehmann, and Alex "Spiderman" Guillot.
The race start and the battle happens as we all hope. Everybody is close, but soon, we can see three fights : Jeffrey VS Martin in the lead, stretching the gap with the second fight : Joshua VS Benjamin, in front of Graham VS Alex.
At mid race, it's Jeffrey who is in the lead, driving with his famous "cool style". But he is very closely followed by Martin, who is only 1,2 secondes behind, driving with a more "agressive" style. It's always wonderful to see his car sliding just enough and exactly the right way to enter faster in the corners.
Behind, Joshua is still 3rd at one lap, and Graham Raistrick has made a good progression, taking the 4th spot to Benjamin Lehmann. The very good french driver Alex Guillot is in the last spot, but still in the ryhtm with a very good pace.
At the end, it's the revenge of Jeffrey "Superman" Rietveld who beats Martin "Batman" Wollanka. But check the gap of only 3 secondes on 20 minutes of a wonderfull race, and you will understand that these two guys are really specials, and it's obvious, because they drive like more than humans, they drive like superheroes.

Jeffrey Rietveld. The winner in class pro.

4/ Graham Raistrick / 57 / 20.03.312
5/ Benjamin Lehmann / 57 / 20.03.726
6/ Alex Guillot / 56 / 20.05.258
7/ Nuno Correia / DNS
8/ Massimo Alliprandi / DNS
9/ Björn Börgers / DNS
