2014 SEASON 1 - SHORT COURSE 4WD 13.5T ROUND 1

27.01.2014

report by Donald Stark (VRC race reporter)

We are just getting started, 2014 has many new surprises, great competition and new racers coming to contest for world series titles.

Pro class A Main Event
The Horn Sounds, “and were off to the races” Kirby Backemeyer dropped the hammer right off the start and propelled his Proline Topped Team Associated SC10 the front of the pack. It was however short lived as Jerome dJay Delcourt began to smooth out and check out. Antoine “Frosty” Rosetti, an early favorite found the pressure to be too much as he performed a perfect lid slide down the back side of the concrete turn table. And this is just the first half of the first lap. First place was set but second through seventh was a battle Royall. Kirby was sitting pretty in second place, they say slow and steady wins the race but slow and steady is in the “S” main this is the A-Main baby and you need to find the fine line between fast and disaster. Kirby found it, around minute 3:30 while he and Barnabas Toth were fighting for second place, Kirby clipped the inside coping and bicycled into the other side of the track.

While his truck was intact his rhythm was busted and his charge to the front was over. Now he just needed to stop the bleeding but one by one he was dropped a spot first by Rosetti then by Wathlet, and finally Stacey. With Delcourt, Toth, and Rosetti Holding down the 1,2,3 spots respectively there was a battle waging to the 4th spot. Now remember this is a 6 race series so every point counts. As they crossed the line just before the 6 minutes clock the order was Evans, Stacey, Wathlet and Caley.

These four were swapping back and forth for the #4 spot. Evans began to pull away while Stacey made a few minor slips and Wathlet and Caley continued to charge. On the last turn Caley just edged in front for 5th followed by Stacey and Wathlet.

Sport Class A-Main Event
These guys were dressed to impress and ready to slug it out for the win. A couple of guys making the move to the A Main this week were Randy Angelito, and Josh Vulte. You may have meet Randy at the RC Expo last year and Josh is a long Time VRC member who will be starting up the world Famous VRC LIVE this Sunday night.

The horn sounds, “And were off to the races” Robert “The RED Assassin” Sorjonen in his patented RED Team Associted SC10 4x4 Lined up in the 2 spot behind Wolfgang Dobetsberger followed by Silvia Lukman, Randy Angelito, Tyler Palmer, Lindsay Mccabe, João Pereira and Josh Vulte. Wolfgang fended off the advances of “The Assassin” for most of the first lap but it was clear from the beginning the Robert had him in his sights. Just before the stripe Robert straight lined the “S” turn dropped the hammer and flew by Wolfgang. After that Robert “The Red Assasin” Sorjonen disappeared into the distance. (Time to bring that Fast truck to the Pro class Robert) Second place was settled also but the race for 3rd was not over by any means. The rest of the field was fighting tooth and nail for the last spot on the podium. At the two minute mark Tyler Palmer and Randy Angelito were locking horns when Randy clipped the landing on the triple. He went flipping into the infield as the turn marshall scrambled to get him back under way.

Tyler ran away with Pereira and Silvia in tow followed Vulte. At the 4 minute mark the drivers had settled into their pace. The finishing order was as follows.
1. Robert Sorjonen
2. Wolfgang Dobetsberger
3. Tyler Palmer
4. João Pereira
5. Silvia Lukman
6. Randy Angelito
7. Lindsay Mccabe
8. Josh Vulte
9. Alan Reeves
10. Thomas Toll

Club class A-Main Event
The horn sounds, “and were off to the races”. The club class A Main Event left the line missing 5 drivers but don’t let that fool you this was a barn burner. Ivan Taylor and Christophe Delmare were separated by one tenth of a second at the end of the 6 minute race. I watched as they traded position on every turn finally at the end Ivan narrowly edged out the hard charging Delamare.

CLUB Class A Main Event
1. Ivan Taylor
2. Christophe Delmare
3. Marco Natale
4. Alain Canova
5. Francesco Granani

Until next time
Have fun racing at the best RC completion’s in the world real or virtual.
