Season 3 report 1:8 nitro sportscars

PRO class
Hiromu Fujii from Japan has been crowned series champion. 3 Second places and a 4th place at the last double-points race at Lloret de Mar secured victory for the young Japanese. Barnabas Toht from Hungary finished just 2 points ahead of Giorgio Mingotti (Italy) on 2nd place. Mingotti finished with the same points as Luke Duthie from Australia, but Giorgio’s victory at Lloret got him the podium place. Kevin Pignotti finished 6 th despite having won 3 races and 2nd at Kissimmee. Missing the last double pointer at lloret cost him the championship.

Italy won the Nations ranking by a mile (no surprise really…) before Switzerland, Spain, Norway and Hong Kong. Good to see these smaller countries now becoming competitive in this class! 90 Racers in total competed in 1:8 nitro sportscars.

PRO class Spec
After winning round 6 at Lloret and gaining the full 200 points, Giorgio Mingotti clinched the title in Spec class with a narrow 8 points margin over Graham Raistrick (UK). Hermann Raith from Germany took the last podium place with 4 top-4 finishes in Season 3. Interesting to see these 3 ‘veterans’ to edge out all the youngsters in this class, apparently experience counts in this drivers class which saw a total of 67 racers compete in Season 3.

In the Nations ranking it was Italy once more, but now with a narrower margin over Germany (2), Switzerland (3), Hong Kong (4) and France (5).

Sport class
Dominique Chaffard (France) took victory in open class, but it was a close call in the last race at Lloret where he finished 6th, 2 places lower would have given the champaign to Alvaro Cuesta from Spain who had to settle for 2nd. Indonesian Teddy Wijaya drove a steady season 3 to finish on the podium as 3rd. All 3 podium finisher will race in Pro class in Season 4, congratulations!

Daniel Meier is going to join these 3 in Pro class with a strong performance in the last 2 races which he both won. As Daniel had only joined the series in round 5 he could do no better than 9th overall in this class. Better keep an eye on Daniel in Season 4!

Germany edged out the USA in the nations ranking, with Spain (3), France (4) and Italy 95) completing the top-5 in Season 3. 75 Different racers competed in Season 3 Sport Spec class.

Sport class Spec
This class saw the closest possible finish with just 1 point separating winner Dominique Chaffard from France and Teddy Wijya from Indonesia, with Jeremy Losaw (US) close behind in 3rd. Jeremy will also race in Pro class in Season 4, congratulations!

Good to see USA taking the nations ranking, with Italy in 2nd, Germany 3rd, France 4th and the Netherlands in 5th! Go Netherlands Go in Season 5! 69 Racers competed in this class in Season 3.

Club class
With a strong 2nd place finish in the double-points last event at Lloret Surapol Vorapatratorn from Thailand secured the Season 3 title in Club class, before veteran racer Danny Munsters from Belgium and Keith Lewis from the US. Surapol’s performance in Season 3 was so impressive that he will have to race in Pro class in Season 4 while Lewis will race Sport class. Munsters stays another season in Club and could be dominating Club class in Season 4 with his rivals gone. But no doubt new fierce competitors will be pushing Danny to go to the limit to stay in the top 3.

The nations ranking was a close battle between Germany (1), USA (2), Spain (3) and France (4) with Italy 5th at some distance. 71 Racers competed in Season 3 for the Club title.

Surapol Vorapatratorn also took top honors in Club Spec class with 1 win and 3 2nd places. The real battle in this class was between Jose Carlos Palacios Quixal from Spain and David Cimba from the US for 2nd place as in the end just 2 points gave 2nd to Jose. Both these racers stay in Club class for another season to gain experience and speed before moving up to Sport class.

The finishing order for the Nations ranking was USA, Italy, Germany, France and the Netherlands. With 61 racers in Club Spec class it was slightly less popular than open class.
