More Than a Game
In the virtual world there are many avenues of entertainment. VRC is one such avenue, in this game we play or race against others from around the world. We race in many cases the exact car that we race in real life. In other games one may become a soldier in real life and actually shoot an M16 or Ak47 but with consequences that will last forever. One may have a chance to see a Formula 1 car in a show room but never actually feel the power and the rush from pushing the pedals. This game VRC is more than a game it is a SIMULATOR for the real counterpart of radio controlled car racing. Anyone with a couple hundred dollars can buy a real RC car and go to the track.
Race Report
The race of the week goes to the 1:12 SPORTSCARS 10.5T, Eppelheim LRP 2012. 1. Dana Bailes and Barnabás Tóth traded the lead with Kevin Hart who came back from his winter hiatus to turn in some fast time this week. Kevin crossed the line first and ran like he stole it but Dana was ready for his speed and caught the leader and passed by the second lap. On lap three Kevin took it back and held the lead for laps 4, 5, and 6 the two were battling while Barnabas surveyed the action from the cat birds seat. On lap 12 Barnabás saw an opening and took it. He looked to be in control and held the lead for six lap. On lap 18 he made a mistake requiring a turn marshal, on the very next lap Dana took the lead back. BT would make one more attempt but to no avail the three would finish in that order Dana, Barnabás, and Kevin. It was a great race and could have gone either way, in the end consistency beats speed every time.

Series Finale
Season two is all over but the crying, 6 classes of cars and twelve champions were crowned although we had a few repeat offenders.

Barnabas would be the MVP of season 2 with Championships and 6 podium overall. Simply amazing.
Driver Spotlight
Giorgio Mingotti has just won the championship in 1/8 scale sports car and 1/8 spec it was a greatly contested class and he did well to stay calm under pressure. After the ashes settled I had a chance to ask him a few questions.
DES: What is your present level of participation in Real RC Racing, how often do you race, what class and what big races do you plan on running this year.
GM: Currently I do not run, I ran until 2006 in 1/8 scale, I started in 1973 and have been a top list in Italy from 1979 to 1984 and then I stopped running until 1987 and then only in fun.
I participated in the European Championships in 1983 and ran the final games of the season and Italian EFRA races in Italy.
DES: What is your warm up routine for VRC main events
GM: Usually, work permitting, I prepare 3-4 days before the event, and if I can run about an hour a day.
DES: Do you work a 9-5 type job, what is your job.
GM: My work is the designer of furniture for bars, restaurants and shops are a professional and independent work 12 hours a day, and often on Saturdays and Sundays.
DES: What do you do outside of RC and VRC for fun? Example, Ski, Boat, Movies….etc.…
GM: I like to travel when I can, and my favorite sport is skiing I have participated since I was 12 years old, and modestly, “I'm very good,” I also follow the races of the World Cup on TV, and I really miss the winter.
DES: What type of computer do you have, SPECS
GM: I use a very powerful computer that I need first of all to work, 8GB ram, Windows XP and 7, Intel Core i7, AMD Radeon HD 6900 graphics card.
DES: what type of controller do you use?
GM: I use the controller VRC to stick
Thanks for the interview, I wish you all good fun with VRC, for me a beautiful simulator that has completely replaced my hobby from real to virtual, I would never go back, the driving pleasure is the same but I do not and I can ride dirt when I want even when it's snowing or raining, day or night, fantastic.

The Local Yokel
Along with this Simulator we have VRC World where we make connections to real people. One such member of our community is David Jenson; he is a 7th grad student in California USA. The following is what David had to say about his-self and his RC racing in real life and VRC.
"Hi Everyone in VRC World, My name is David Jenson. I race in the expert or Pro classes. I usually club race at least twice a week unless I am participating in a series race or an event. I run Pro 4, Pro 2, 1/8 scale, and modified 2wd buggy. I race in the following series races. JBRL, Hot Rod Hobbies Shoot out, Reedy Truck Race, Surf City Classic, and Team Associated Top Gun Shootout.
I go to West Coast Raceway, in La Mirada, CA or OCRC in Huntington Beach, CA and club race at least twice a week. I am in the 7 grade (Jr. High) and have been racing RC Cars for 3 and ½ years. I like to play other games such as Call of Duty or Battlefield. My sponsors for RC cars racing are, Team Losi Racing, Thunder Power, JConcepts, Bombshells, and Enigma Graphics.
I use VRC to play for fun the computer I use is a Dell inspiron laptop with Intel Core i5-3210 CPU 2.5 GHz, 8 GB memory with 1 TB hard drive. I use the VRC-PRO USB Adapter with a Spektrum transmitter that works with my Spektrum DXR3R radio. By using my own radio it feels more like I am driving my real car.
My dad is my RC tech or Mechanic at the track but I am learning. I am starting to help my dad, but he really maintains the cars. VRC has helped me learn what some of the setting can do with the performance and speed of the car."
I am happy to have met David and his family at the races and hope to see him on the leader board in real RC and in VRC for a long time to come.
