2016 1:10 ELECTRIC NASCAR TRUCKS ROUND 7 Oslo

25.07.2016

Report by J-P.Huhtala (VRC race reporter)

2016 Season 1 and round 7, Oslo

Oslo was very first VRC V3 track. A short fast track with a few tricky corners to get right, especially the end of the backstraight.

TIMED PRACTICE

In timed practice it looked that Canadian driver Robert Woloschuk and Finland`s J-P.Huhtala was setting the pace to others. But finally Italian talent, Andrea Giordano beated those two with two seconds margin. Andrea`s average laptime was 14.879, and this gave a little direction to others what pace should be, if you wanted to be on top. Huhtala`s and Woloschuk`s average was one 10th slower. Fourth fastest in this round was Philippe Gross from Switzerland. Philippe was eight seconds behind Giordano, and average was over 0.4 secods slower than Giordano`s. But this was so early stage in this event, and everybody was just getting miliar with this track.

QUALIFYING

In qualy, Giordano continued his remarkable pace, hitting those laps with 14.694 average. Nearest to him was Huhtala, 2.1seconds behind with 14.796 average. Third fastest was Britains Allan O`Brien and fourth fastest Canadian Robert Woloschuk. Allan and Robert had over 5 seconds gap to the leader.
Man in fifth place, Britains Graham Raistrick was propably hiding. This man was worth to watch, and you never couldnt miscalculate him, so fast he is.
Carson Yeung got sixth place from qualifying, he was only 0.008 behind Graham.
Ok, this round was also so early stage in this event. We could see from the resultlist, that round 6 winner from Kissimmee, Ritchie Thorn was at 20th place.
Next round, bump up, would show true pace of all drivers, as the real battle begins from there.

BUMP UP
Now the battle of grid positions had started. Caley from USA, Giordano and Huhtala were those top three names when round ended. Ok, Woloschuk at fourth place was only 0.8 seconds behind Huhtala, so nothing was clear yet. TQ Caley and Giordano had also tight battle of first grid. There was only 0.9seconds separating these talents.
It was once again bit weird, as these event time schedule`s tells that TIMED PRACTICE is ”not mandatory”. Caley who had taken the TQ place from BUMP UP, hadnt joined to qualifying. What is point of qualifying, if its not mandatory. I`ve noticed this same issue many times earlier, but hadnt ask it. In my opinion, if theres ”not mandatory” writed in qualifying box, i would understand this.
But anyway, this doesnt take away anything about Billy Caley winning result, he was in fire at bump up, no doubt that and he deserved that TQ place. TIGHT RACING IS WHAT WE NEED AND EXPECT!
Britains Allan O`Brien and Graham Raistrick, who tooked places third and fifth from qualifying, didnt participate to this round. It was bit sad, these two would have been fighted those A-main podium places.

FINAL

When the final was arranged, it was bit sad when we noticed that Robert Woloschuk from Canada wasnt at the grid. Woloschuk who had battled of third grid with Huhtala at bumpup, but finally Huhtala was only 0.7 seconds faster than him.
But we got full of exitement when final was runned. Billy Caley from USA and Italian Andrea Giordano had great fight of first place. Andrea started from second grid, leaded the pack up to 9th lap when he cutted one corner and Caley took the lead. From this point Caley didnt surrender, he was leading allready with two seconds margin when lap 24 ended. From this point Giordano in second place got his ”fighmode” on and started to gain Caley. But Caley hold his nerves, finishline difference to Giordano was only 0.4 seconds. So, Caley took the victory, Giordano was second.

This is from very early stage from Final. Giordano leading, Caley in second and Huhtala in third place.

Jukka-Pekka Huhtala from Finland had pretty poring race. His pace wasnt good enough to challenge those talents at front and man behind at fourth place, Carson Yeung was 11 seconds behind him when this final ended. So, Huhtala was third and Yeung in fourth place.

Carson Yeung who finished fourth, had some acropatic moves during the final.

Next positions went to USA, as Jim Merrits and Oscar Hogans solved places five and six. Merrits was fifth and Hogans in sixth position, but only one second behind Merrits. Great battle guys!
Thomas Priemer from Germany and Billy Yeung from Hong Kong were next who crossed the line. Priemer in seventh place was only 0.3 seconds ahead of Yeung when they crossed the line, so it was really close battle between these two. Philippe Gross from Switzerland, who started from sixth grid, had big problems with his transmitter and connection. Finally Philippe was 3laps away from 8th position and had to settle to 9th place. Next time Philippe, this is motorsport!!

Next round will be raced in Brasil, at Jundiai, Sao Paolo track. wellcome everybody!!
